My name is Laura and I'm 22 years old. I contracted meningitis my 1st year of college in April of 2004.
My symptoms were not the usual. I had severe pain in my shoulder joint that could have been any number of things. I thought I just slept on my shoulder funny and it was sore from the night before. My instincts told me differently so I went right to the ER. Soon after getting there I had a very high fever. I was put on antibiotics that day and it wasn't until after my surgery that the doctors found out I had bacterial meningitis.
To anyone who's reading this, listen to what your body is telling you. If I didn't, I'm positive I would not be alive today.
